Like many great things, Dunlop history started with a simple case – the company's founder John Boyd Dunlop watched his son driving a tricycle. Father noticed that his son felt very uncomfortable when riding on the rough road. So he decided to change it – he took rubber shits to cover the tires, glued and pumped them. It is how the first practical pneumatic tire appeared. This simple case helped John Boyd Dunlop establish his tire company and beat the industry's rivals. In 1889, he established the first factory in Dublin and later in Birmingham. In six years, his company turned into a thriving international company – it sold tires to the French market; it started producing tires in the American and Australian factories. In 1913, it appeared on the Japanese market by opening the first tire factory in Kobe. So Dunlop's story is an excellent example of how simple things can greatly change the world.

 Dunlop is a synonym of high-productive tires. That's why the company constantly works on innovations to improve this high productivity. One of such innovations is Noise Shield Technology. It comprises the improved polyurethane foam layer matched to the tire's interior surface that allows reducing noises and sounds by 50%. The other important Dunlop innovation is the Specific Bead Seat System – the technology, which strengthens the tire and rim connection to deliver the exact control and excellent driving experience. Besides, all the Dunlop tires contain the unique Multi-Radius Tread Technology. Thanks to it, the pressure is equally sent along with the contact patch, which enhances the process of making turns. Also, for its tires, the Irish manufacturer uses the compound of Silica-Plus for upgrading braking, grip, and acceleration.

Dunlop has a variety of tire types:

  • Direzza type – it's the summer-season tires that deliver the highest productivity;
  • Grandtrek type – it's created for those who drive SUVs and pickup trucks;
  • Signature type – aims to provide the most comfortable ride;
  • Graspic type – this winter-season type is the best choice if you want to enhance your traction when driving winter roads;
  • SP type – it's the Dunlop all-year tires;
  • SP Sport and SP Sport MAXX types – they're manufactured for high-class vehicles.

In case you want to have sports productivity, then you need to choose the Dunlop Direzza tires. These tires represent an excellent combination of elegant style and great handling. Take the Direzza DZ102, for example. They come with the special Silicarbon Matrix compound of the tread (mix of carbon black and ilica), which delivers advanced traction. The tread also has broad circumferential channels aimed to improve the resistance of hydroplaning and traction on wet surfaces. For this tire model Dunlop uses twin steel belts for its internal construction, strengthened by the Jointless Band polyamide cord cap. It helps maintain the tread durability, provides excellent handling, and stable comfort driving at high speeds.

For having a comfortable ride during the whole year, Dunlop created the Grandtreck tires. The best of its features are demonstrated on the AT20 tires. Their tread contains an excellent all-season compound and aggressive pattern, giving the drivers great traction while riding the dry roads. Thanks to the center rib, the steering reaction is good. To enhance the braking and making-turns process, Dunlop implements the VersaLoad Technology and uses in-between blocks of the tread. The Grandtreck AT20 tires are the best solution for those who drive light pickup trucks, SUVs, and crossovers on the highway.

If you're an owner of a minivan or sedan, Dunlop offers you the Signature tire line, especially the Signature II. These tires have the all-year compound of the tread with lateral Evaqua grooves and circumferential channels. It helps effectively move out the water from under the tires' footprint, provides great handling when driving dry surfaces and reduces unnecessary noises. Dunlop uses the multi-directional siping for this tire model to improve the traction on wet and winter roads. Like Grandtreck tires, their inner construction also contains twin steel belts for enhancing tires' lifespan and handling. Besides, the Signature II tires deliver smooth driving thanks to the Dimensionally Stable Polyester body.
